Knickerbocker Rd & 2N0

In San Bernardino National Forest, near Angelus Oaks CA - south of Big Bear Lake, is one of many Forestry Trails & dispensed camping in the San Bernardino National Forest. The road is literally in walking distance from the Village in Big Bear. The road is easy, as are all of the trails on the south side of the lake. The views to the north, including Big Bear Lake. 4WD is recommended but not required. I’ve seen sprinter vans and no wheel drive cars make it up the windy DIRT road. Camping here is LEGAL with a 14 Day limit. Not sure if it’s legal but NO designated fire pits. San Bernardino NF allows propane fires but not open campfires. Lots of hiking trails, mountain biking and dirt bikes allowed. I highly recommend this place as I’ve stayed twice with no legal issues. I drove my Jeep Wrangler with no lift and was fine getting here. Quiet and lots of good places to set up camp.

May, 2021: Heads up this isn’t open all year round.
June 2021 road wasn’t passable, and was closed.
