In Shasta-Trinity National Forest near Montague CA - A well known place to to camp. Observe the 14 day limit and make sure you get a burn permit before making a fire or even using a stove - tap website for permit. <br />The rangers are pretty nice and come by from time to time to check up on people. There are illegal growers nearby, across US-97, so be aware of your surroundings. The closest towns are Weed to the south and Grenada to the west. Both have fuel and food. <br /> <br />May 2021: Watch out for overprivileged brain dead people in the area, tried to tell us we couldn’t camp 100 yards from them in a public camping site, stood our ground and got a nice spot. Beautiful views, nice and peaceful once the bigots were gone. <br /> <br />June 2021: The comment about camping near a designated spot is false. You have to be 1/4 mile away from any designated spots in this forest.
