Adirondack Park near Lake Pleasant NY - These dispersed camping sites are located on State land in the Adirondack park. There are appx. 12 sites spread over about 1.5 miles of dirt road. Taking West River road south out of the Town of Wells you will come to a section of road where pavement ends and dirt road continues. The dirt road is maintained by the town and even cars can make the trip. May be rough after a heavy rain but we found it to be in good shape when we went during dry weather. At about the six mile mark the dispersed sites start appearing on either side of the road. There are no reservations, first come, first serve. Up to three nights you don’t need a permit. However if you plan on staying longer you need a free permit from the local forest ranger. About half of the sites are really only suitable for tent camping, the other half could accommodate a Class B or C motorhome. Also up to about a 25’ travel trailer would fit with an experienced driver. There is a large turn around at the very end of the road so no worries about backing out all the way if you don’t wanna stay. We stayed for 2 days in Aug. of 20 and found the area nice and clean. A fire ring and picnic table are provided for each site. Some sites also have a pit privy. There were a few passing cars through the day as there is a popular hiking trail at the end of the road but nothing horrible. Would def stay again!
