Flying Spur

Closest legal free camping to Yosemite Valley. GPS works well. Excellent Verizon cell service. Access is through Yosemite and the little inholding community of Foresta. Follow paved Foresta Road to graveled maintained road to Old Coulterville Road, go west, turn left onto Flying Spur Road. Follow road until you reach NPS boundary sign nailed to tree. From that point to the cell tower is Stanislaus National Forest. Free public camping is on each side of the road for almost a 1/4 mile. Flat campsites. Large area on left for groups. Stanislaus Recreation Tech Elbert told me it is dispersed camping with 21 day limit. No water or trash service. Pack it in Pack it out.You could put 50 vehicles in there and tents per RecTech. Flying Spur Homestead owners don’t mind all the camping by their property line. Boondocking haven. Anything past cell tower is private property. Please drive slow through the community of Foresta. USFS area closed from November 15 - April 15<br />Excellent scenic views, birding and wildlife. Incredible sunsets and sunrises, some shade, 1/2 hour from Yosemite Valley, 15 minutes from Reeds climbing area and Cascades “5 and dime”. Miles and miles of USFS mountain biking roads. NPS trash dumpsters on way out. Free dump station in Yosemite Valley at Upper Pines Campground entrance<br />Free camping just in time for “Rocktober in Yosemite”.
